Koru Awards
Throughout the year students can earn koru badges which are a fabric “flash” that is sewn onto their shirt. There are seven different koru badges- ‘Dark Blue’ for sports, ‘Black’ for service and attendance, ‘Yellow’ for cultural, ‘Light Blue’ for virtues, ‘Red’ for academic and ‘White’ for outstanding achievement. A class academic koru is awarded every week for effort or achievement; students will earn others for commitment to sports teams or cultural activities over a season; for accumulating ten cornerstone or virtues cards; outstanding achievements e.g. winning a place at the Waikato Science Fair or their team winning the Saturday netball competition; for service to the school e.g. Road Patrol and full attendance for a term.
There is also the opportunity to earn “advanced koru” awards – a metal badge at bronze, silver, gold and platinum levels. These awards have been established to provide a consistent and visible way of students demonstrating their achievements in a range of areas of school life. This assists students with goal setting and achievement as they require koru in each area to earn the advanced awards.
Congratulations to the following Totara Students who have been awarded
 ‘Advanced Koru Awards’.
